So, what exactly is the Darknet?Well, the Darknet is pretty much an anonymous Internet where you can browse the Internet and not be traced.
The Darknet is often referred to as the ‘Deep Web’ and ‘Hidden Internet’, it doesn’t operate the way your used to.
The address you use on the anonymous internet isn’t the same as the ‘surface’ web, for example: Typing “Google.co.uk” into your web browser will take you to Google’s British search engine, however, for a search engine on the Darknet such as TORCH Search Engine, you cannot type in “TORCH.co.uk” because the website is hidden from view.
In order to go to TORCH you would have to know the URL, the URL for TORCH is “xmh57jrzrnw6insl.onion”.Another thing, the extension used on the Darknet is .onion. Think of it like this: A website is hidden inside an onion, normal search engines cannot index the website because the spiders the search engines use cannot find the path to the website, the TOR Network is one of the applications that is specially designed to read the .onion address and can transfer the information from the website.
The Darknet was first noticed to grow away from the ‘surface’ web in 2004, back in the days when they weren’t that many people on the net itself, if you think DSL was slow, you should’ve tried to load up the Darknet back in 04’.
The Darknet isn’t too easy to navigate, the search engines don’t always work which is what can make it seem like a very boring place.
